This Rock Wren carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Rock Wren is a dull, gray-brown above with contrasting cinnamon rump, buffy tail tips, broad, blackish tail band and finely-streaked breast. It frequently bobs its body, especially when alarmed. The song is a variable mix of buzzes and trills. The call is a buzzy tick-ear. Fairly common in arid and semi-arid habitats, sunny talus slopes, scrublands and dry washes.
