This Gray-headed Chickadee carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Gray-headed Chickadee is gray-brown above and whitish below with a white cheek patch and black bib, buffy sides and flanks. It can be distinguished from the Boreal Chickadee by more extensively white cheeks, longer tail, paler flanks and pale edges on the wing coverts. Still known as the Siberian Tin in the Old World, the Gray-headed Chickadee is hard to find, but the lucky watchers may find him in willows and spruces on the edges of tundra areas.
