11-inch Night Heron
This 11-inch Night Heron carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Black-crowned Night Heron is a stocky Heron with a short neck and legs. The adult has a black crown and back with white hind-neck plumes which are longest during breeding seasons. The calls include a low, harsh woc, more guttural than in its Yellow-crowned relative. Mainly a nocturnal feeder, the Night Heron typically roosts in trees.
