This Open-winged Black-capped Chickadee carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Black-capped Chickadee and the Carolina Chickadee are both very similar in appearance. The best distinction between them may be their voices. The Black-capped's call is a lower, slower chick-a-dee-dee-dee than the Carolina's typical song, a clear whistled fee-bee or fee-bee-ee, the first note is higher in pitch.
