This Female Prothonotary Warbler carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Prothonotary Warbler has a large (5.25 inches), plump body and is short tailed and very, long billed. The eyes are large, dark and prominent. The female is duller than the male and her head is less golden. The song is a series of loud, ringing zweet notes. Also gives a dry chip note and buzzy flight call. This is the only eastern warbler that nests in trees or other cavities and crannies.
