This Cactus Wren carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Cactus Wren is a large wren with a dark crown, streaked back, heavily barred wings and tail and a broad, white eyebrow. The breast is densely spotted with black, slightly less densely spotted in the threatened, Californian sub-species. The song is a low-pitched, harsh, rapid cha cha cha cha cha. Commonly found in cactus country, hillsides and valleys, the bulky nests are tucked into the protective spines of Cholla Cactus or thorny bushes.
