Cassin's Finch

Cassin's Finch

This Cassin's Finch carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. Cassin's Finch is commonly found in the upper mountain forests and evergreen woodlands with the range including most of the northwestern United States. The crimson of the adult male's cap ends sharply at his brown-streaked nape. The throat and breast are paler on the Cassin's Finch than with the Purple Finch with streaks on the sides that are more distinct on the male of the species. The red hues begin to appear late in the bird's second summer. The tail is strongly notched. Adult females and immatures of both sexes closely resemble the Purple Finch.
