This Chickadee Family carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Black-capped Chickadee has a black cap and bib, with cheeks more extensively and purer white than the similar Carolina Chickadee. The greater wing covers and secondaries of the Black-capped Chickadee are broadly edged in white and the tertials are more boldly edged with darker centers than Carolina's. Common in open woodlands, clearings, and suburbs. Reference National Geographic Field Guide To The Birds of North America, Fifth Edition, Page 336
