This Black-capped Chickadee carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood.
The Black-capped Chickadee range includes Canada, Alaska and the U.S. Although very similar in appearance to the Carolina Chickadee, there are distinct coloring differences, more noticeable in Winter plumage. Although the ranges of the two species barely overlap, occasional weather fluctuations will tend to push the Black-Capped Chickadees further south. Where breeding ranges overlap, the two species have been known to hybridize. Reference National Geographic Field Guide To The Birds of North America, Fifth Edition, Page 336
