This Painted Redstart carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Painted Redstart is distinguished by its bright-red lower breast and belly accompanied by a black head and upperparts. This bird's distinctive, white wing patch and white outer tail feathers are conspicuous when he fans his tail. The U.S. range is Pine and Oak canyons in New Mexico and Arizona. The species is rarely spotted in southern California. Reference National Geographic Field Guide To The Birds of North America, Fifth Edition, Page 398
