Life-size Elf Owl
This life-sized Elf Owl carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Elf Owl is the smallest Owl in North America. Features of the Elf Owl include yellow eyes, very short tail and lack ear tufts. Strictly nocturnal, the Elf Owl roosts and nests in cavities in Saguaro Cactii and trees. The call is an irregular series of high churp notes and chattering notes. Commonly found in desert lowlands and in canyons, especially among Oaks and Sycamores. Fairly common in foothills, it has been almost eliminated in California. Casually found in the Winter in southernmost Texas.
