This Northern Bobwhite carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Northern Bobwhite is a mottled, reddish-brown quail with a short gray tail. The flanks are striped with reddish-brown and the throat and eye stripe are white in the male and buffy in the female. The male's call is a rising, whistled bob-white, heard chiefly in late Spring and Summer. The whistled hoy call is heard year-round. The Bobwhite feeds and roosts in coveys except during the nesting season. Reference National Geographic Field Guide To The Birds of North America, Fifth Edition, Page 68
