This 9.25-inch American Kestrel carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The call of the American Kestrel is a shrill killy killy killy. Found in open country and in cities, the American Kestrel feeds on insects, reptiles, and small mammals, hovering over its prey before plunging. It also eats small birds, primarily in the Winter. American Kestrels will often be seen perching on telephone wires and frequently bobs its tail. Reference National Geographic Field Guide To The Birds of North America, Fifth Edition, Page 138
