This Black-billed Cuckoo carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Black-billed Cuckoo is grayish brown above and pale-grayish below. The bill is usually all dark. Lacking the rufous primaries of the Yellow-billed Cuckoo, the Black-billed posseses a reddish orbital ring and the under-tail is patterned in gray with white tipping. The song usually consists of monotonous cu-cu-cu or cu-cu-cu-cu phrases. Uncommon to fairly commonly found in woodlands and along streams.
