This Yellow-billed Cuckoo carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Yellow-billed Cuckoo is grayish-brown above and white below with rufous primaries and yellow lower mandible. The under-tail is patterned in bold black and white. One song sounds hollow and wooden, a rapid staccato kuk-kuk-kuk that usually slows and descends to a kakakowlp-kowlp ending. Commonly found in open woods, orchards, and streamside willow and alder groves. Reference National Geographic Field Guide To The Birds of North America, Fifth Edition, Page 252
