This is an original, fully detailed carving. From the tip of the beak to the end of the tail it is 10 inch long. The total carving is 12 inches high. The bird is hand carved from basswood and painted with acrylic colors. It is mounted on a hand carved wooden branch. Glass eyes and metal feet. Widespread eastern nominate race lineatus shows dark streaks on a reddish chest. The Southeastern alleni is smaller, with grayish cast to the head and back and usually lacks the breast streaking. South Florida extimus is the smallest and palest race. California elegans and central Texas texanus are decidedly more rufous below; elegans is often solidly rufous across the chest and has broader, white tail bands.
