This 6-inch Mongolian Plover carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Mongolian Plover has warm-brown upperparts and a bright, cinnamon-rufous crown, neck collar, and breast band. Other features include a black mask and stripe over its white forehead; white underparts and a blackish bill and legs. Breeding primarily in Asia, Mongolian Plovers are spotted annually in the western Aleutian Islands, on islands in the Bering Sea, and on mainland Alaska. The voice is a short, soft, low-pitched crrik or crrik-crrik.
