This 8-inch Greater Roadrunner carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Greater Roadrunner is a large, ground-dwelling Cuckoo streaked with brown and white. Features of this bird include a long, heavy bill, conspicuous bushy crest and long, white-edged tail. The short, rounded wings show a white crescent on the primaries. The bird's diet includes insects, lizards, snakes, rodents, and small birds. The song is a dove-like cooing, descending in pitch. Commonly found in the southwestern scrub desert and mesquite groves and less common in chaparral and open woodland.
