This Scrub Jay carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Western Scrub Jay has a long tail with blue above and a variable, bluish band on the chest. Coastal races have a deeper blue above and a contrasting brown patch. Other features include a distinct white eyebrow and blue breast band. The undertail coverts are geographically variable and may or may not be bluish. Reference National Geographic Field Guide To The Birds of North America, Fifth Edition, Page 322
