This Cerulean Warbler carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Cerulean Warbler is small with a short tail and two wide, white wing bars. The adult male is bluish above with dark streaks and white below a dark, breast band and dark, blue-gray streaking on the sides. Females have a greenish mantle, blue-green or bluish crown and a pale eyebrow which broadens behind the eye. Her breast and throat are pale yellowish. The song is a short, fast, accelerating series of buzzy notes on one pitch, ending with a long, single buzz note. Sharply declining in population, this warbler is found in tall trees in swamps, bottomlands and mixed woodlands near water.
