Black and White Warbler

Black and White Warbler

This Black and White Warbler carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Male Black-and-white Warbler's throat and cheeks are black during the breeding season, with a whiter chin in the Winter. Females have pale cheeks and are diffusely streaked on buffy flanks. Both sexes are boldly striped on the head, over most of the body and under-tail coverts. This is the only warbler that regularly creeps along branches and up and down tree trunks like a nuthatch. The song is a long series of high, thin wee-see notes. The calls include a sharp chip and high seep-seep. Commonly found in mixed woodlands.
