Hooded Warbler

Hooded Warbler

This Hooded Warbler carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Hooded Warbler is similar to Wilson's Warbler, except all ages have dark lores, bigger bills and larger eyes. The male of the species has an extensive, black hood, and the female shows blackish or olive crown and sides of neck. The female sometimes has a black throat or black spots on the breast. The song is loud, musical, whistled variations of ta-wit ta-wit ta-wit tee-yo. The call is a flat, metallic chink. Commonly found in swamps and moist woodlands, it generally stays hidden in dense undergrowth and low branches.
