This open-mouthed Blue-winged Warbler carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The male Blue-winged Warbler has a bright, yellow crown and underparts, white or yellowish-white under-tail coverts, a black eye line and blue-gray wings with two white wing bars. The female is duller overall. In both sexes, the bill is long and slender and extensive white on the tail which is visible from below. The main song is a wheezy beee-bzzz, the second note is lower; an alternate song is longer and more complex. Commonly inhabits brushy meadows and second-growth woodlands and it nests on the ground.
