This Male Prothonotary Warbler carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Prothonotary Warbler has a large (5.25 inches long), plump body and is short tailed and very long billed. The eyes are large, dark and prominent. The Male's head and under-parts are golden yellow, fading to white under-tail coverts. Other male color features include blue-gray wings without wing bars and a blue-gray tail with large, white patches. The song is a series of loud, ringing zweet notes. Also gives a dry chip note and buzzy flight call. Usually nests in tree cavities in low sites along streams or surrounded by sluggish or stagnant water.
