This White-breasted Nuthatch carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The male White-breasted Nuthatch has a black cap above and an all-white face and breast with a variable amount of rust-coloring below. The northeastern females have grey crowns and the western variety has longer, thinner bills. The range of the species covers most of the United States and it can be commonly found in leafy trees in the East and oaks and conifers in the West.
