This Paradise Tanager carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Paradise Tanager can be found in South America from the Guianas and Venezuela to the upper Amazon. Both sexes are very similar in appearance with a light green hood, black upper-body and belly with a lower back normally red to orange; the rest of the underparts are turquoise-blue except shading to violet at throat and a black ring around the eyes. The color is reinforced by the species' unusual head feather structure.
