This Snow Bunting in winter plumage carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The breeding plumage for the Snow Bunting is black-and-white and is acquired by the end of Spring. The bill is black in the Summer, orange-yellow in the Winter. The long black-and-white wings are seen in all seasons. The males usually show more white overall than the females, especially in the wings. Fairly common species, breeds on tundra, rocky shores and talus slopes.
