Costa's Hummingbird
This Costa's Hummingbird carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The adult male Costa's Hummingbird has a deep-violet crown and gorget extending far down the sides of the neck. The female is generally grayer above and whiter below than the female Black-chinned Hummingbird. Best distinguished by its voice, the call of this species is a high, metallic tink, often given in a series. The male's call is a loud zing. Fairly common in desert washes and dry chaparral.
