This black-headed Gouldian Finch carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. Common names for the Gouldian Finch include the Lady Gouldian, Rainbow Finch, and the name is sometimes just shortened to Gould. There are several natural color mutations in the wild. The most populous is the Black head variety. The breast and belly colors are usually used to determine sex. Males will have a brighter and darker color of purple on the chest and the yellow of the belly will be darker and more intense than the female.
