This Dunlin carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Dunlin is medium sized with a long bill which is curved at the tip. The breeding plumage includes reddish upper-parts and a black belly. Several sub-species differ in size, structure and breeding plumage. In Winter plumage, the upper-parts and chest are a brownish-gray. Juvenile Dunlins are rusty above and spotted below.
