This Female House Sparrow carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Female House Sparrow is best identified by the combination of a streaked back, buffy eye stripe and un-streaked breast. Commonly found and aggressive in behavior, Houses Sparrows are omnipresent in populated areas.

Origin of State Name Massachusetts takes its name from the Massachusett tribe of Native Americans, who lived in the Great Blue Hill region, south of Boston. The Indian term supposedly means "at or about the Great Hill".
