This Star Finch carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. Also known as Red-faced Finch or Rufous-tailed Finch, the males can be easily distinguished from females by their large face mask. The males will also often sing their song while stretching their neck and fluffing their head feathers.

| Origin of State Name |
The origin of the name of the state of Maine is uncertain and debated. The prevailing theory has to do with a practical nautical term, "the main" or "Main Land", "Meyne" or "Mainland", which served to distinguish the bulk of the state from the numerous islands. This is still commonly used today. |
