Mini (1/2-size) Eastern Meadowlark

This Mini (1/2-size) Eastern Meadowlark carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Eastern Meadowlark is commonly found in fields and meadows over most of the Eastern half of the United States from Texas to Maine. The black, V-shaped breast-band on the yellow underparts is characteristic of both the Eastern and Western meadowlark species after the post-juvenile molting. In their new Fall plumage, these birds are more richly colored overall, with partly veiled breast bands and rich, buffy flanks. The yellow does not reach the sub-moustachial area on the females and barely does so on the males.
