This Brown Creeper carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. With their curved bills, these little tree-climbers dig insects and larvae from bark. Their stiff tail feathers serving as props and camouflaged by a streaked brown plumage, Creepers spiral upward from the base of a tree, then fly to a lower place on another tree. They prefer to nest in coniferous, mixed, or swampy forests. Reference National Geographic Field Guide To The Birds of North America, Fifth Edition, Page 340
