This Mesange Charbonnier carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Mesange Charbonnier (also known as the Great Tit), Parus major is commonly found throughout Europe and Asia, however they don't normally migrate. Although there are many races of the species, they basically fall into three geographic groups, each having their own special coloration. The sub-species found in temperate Europe and Asia are primarily green above and yellow below. The sub-species found in China, Korea, Japan and southeastern Russia are green above and white or yellow-tinged white below. Those found in India and southeast Asia are grey above and whitish below.
