This 9-inch Marbled Godwit carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The Marbled Godwit has a long, bi-colored bill which is slightly curved upwards. the coloring is tawny-brown; mottled with black above and barred below. The barring is much less extensive on Winter birds and juveniles. The wing coverts are also less patterned on juveniles. Marbled Godwit's legs are longer than in the Bar-tailed Godwit. In flight, the cinnamon wing linings and cinnamon on primaries and secondaries are distinctive. Likes to nest in grassy meadows, near lakes and ponds.
