These wooden bird carvings will thrill you with their realistically, beautiful detail. In our galleries on the left, you will find over 350 different and unique wood carvings of birds from the tiny and mysterious Hummingbirds to majestic Eagles and wise old Owls.

Jenny Ming and her husband Yao Ming have been producing these beautiful and exquisite carved birds since 1989. From their studio in Rosendale, New York, these self-taught artists have won several awards for their craft which can be found in fine art galleries all over the world.

All of these birds are signed by Jenny and her experience, knowledge and passion for bird carving and bird physiology is evident in each of them.

Below are just a few samples of Jenny’s work.   Please choose one of the Galleries on the left to see our complete line of basswood bird carvings.

In these Galleries, you will find many finely, detailed carvings of beautiful song birds, such as Painted Buntings, Canaries and Parakeets. There is also a wide selection of wild bird carvings available, including Goldfinches, Redbirds, Bluebirds, Chickadees, Orioles, Woodpeckers, Hummingbirds and many more.

We also have several magnificent species and specimens of Owls, Hawks, Eagles and other birds of prey.  At the front of each Gallery, you can read a brief list of all the species that are found in that Gallery.

There are multiple images available of most of the birds, so that you can see how the birds look from different perspectives.

All our carvings are full, life-sized representations, unless otherwise indicated.

This European Starling carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The breeding plumage of the adult European Starling is iridescent black and includes a yellow bill with a blue base in the male and a pink base in the female. In fresh fall plumage, the feathers are tipped with white and buff, giving a speckled appearance. The bill is brownish. In flight, you will note the short, square tail, stocky body and short, broad-based pointed wings that appear pale-gray from below. The juvenile is gray-brown, with a brown bill. The call notes include squeaks, warbles, chirps, and twittering and it also imitates songs of other species. A Eurasian species introduced in New York in 1890-91, it soon spread across the continent. Abundant, bold and aggressive, it often competes successfully with native species for nest holes. Outside the nesting season, it is usually seen in large flocks.

This Life-sized Boreal Owl carving was hand-crafted from solid Basswood. The white under-parts of the Boreal Owl are streaked with chocolate-brown and the whitish, facial disk has a distinct, black border. The bill is pale and the Boreal is darker above than the Northern Saw-wet Owl. The juvenile is chocolate-brown below. Boreal Owls are strictly nocturnal and roost during the daylight in dense cover, usually close to the tree trunk. The call, heard primarily in the breeding season from late Winter to mid-Spring is a short, rapid series of hollow hoo notes. The Boreal Owl inhabits dense northern forests and muskeg. Irruptive, usually in small numbers; otherwise its seldom seen south of its normal range, but this may be due to the difficulty of locating them. The species breeds at isolated locations high in the Rocky Mountains.
